Toby Martin, frontman for indie darlings Youth Group, has a solo album, streams a single, and books shows.
After a decade fronting Youth Group, Martin is stepping out to release his solo debut Love’s Shadow.
Indie kids will remember Youth Group from their four acclaimed albums Urban & Eastern, Skeleton Jar, Casino Twilight Dogs and The Night Is Ours but the rest of the country can’t forget their chart-topping cover of ‘Forever Young’.
Martin wrote his solo album in Sydney and New York, co-produced it with Youth Group co-conspirator Tim Kevin and had it mixed in Nashville by Mark Nevers (Bonnie Prince Billy, Silver Jews).
He’s been stretching his legs live recently, supporting Seeker Lover Keeper and playing alongside members of The Triffids and Glide.
To launch the album, Martin has booked shows in Melbourne and Sydney. He’ll play the Vanguard in Sydney on Friday 27 July and the Worker’s Club in Melbourne on Saturday 28 July.
Love’s Shadow will be out on July 27, and you can hear the first taste ‘Everything At The Same Time’ featuring Sarah Kelly of theredsunband below.
