Yvonne Elliman and Husband Get 14 Day Sentence For “Drug Possession”

Singer Yvonne Elliman and her husband, Allen Alexander, have been sentenced in a drug possession case.

Last August, the couple went to Guam to perform at a benefit concert for the Mount Carmel School but, upon arrival, drug dogs alerted on their their luggage. Inside was what was suspected to be marijuana and methamphetamine.

Two weeks after their arrest, they plead guilty with a negotiated plea agreement and were allowed to return to Hawaii where they were caring for Elliman’s mother.

On Tuesday (March 27), they were sentenced to fourteen days in jail; however, the actual sentence will be carried out in a more unique manner. They won’t have to remain in Guam but, rather, Superior Court Judge Vernon Perez is allowing them to have daytime confinement in a Hawaiian court. The judge is also allowing them to alternate days so that someone is available for elder care.

In addition, the couple have already competed 120 hours of community service, paid $5,000 each in fines and have been treated for drug addiction and have stayed clean, according to the judge, since the time of their original sentence.

Yvonne Elliman first made an impact singing the part of Mary Magdalene on the original concept album of Jesus Christ Superstar. She went on to star in both the Broadway and film production of the show and had hits with “I Don’t Know How to Love Him”, “Love Me”, “Hello Stranger” and “If I Can’t Have You”.
