British record producer Ken Scott, who work includes David Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ and Supertramp ‘Crisis What Crisis’ will speak at SXSW in 2013.
Ken Scott
Scott began his career at age 16 working at EMI’s Abbey Road studio. His first session was working with The Beatles on the A Hard Day’s Night sessions.
In 1967, EMI promoted Scott to engineer and his first session in his new job was again with The Beatles on ‘Your Mother Should Know’. A few days later he recorded the strings for ‘I Am The Walrus’ and then worked on ‘Lady Madonna’, ‘Hello Goodbye’ and ‘Hey Jude’.
Scott also worked with Pink Floyd, Mary Hopkins and The Pretty Things at Abbey Road. Then in the 70s he worked on John Lennon’s Give Peace A Chance’ and ‘Cold Turkey’, Ringo Starr’s ‘It Don’t Come Easy’ and George Harrison’s ‘All Things Must Pass’.
Ken then got a job with Trident Studios and mixed Elton John’s ‘Madman Across The Water’ which lead to Elton’s ‘Honky Chateau’ and then ‘Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player’.
Around this time he connected with David Bowie and worked on ‘The Man Who Sold The World’ then co-produced ‘Hunky Dory’ then ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars’.
The list of artists Ken has worked with includes The Rolling Stones, America, Rick Wakeman before he branched off into jazz and worked with Stanley Clarke and Jeff Beck.
Ken Scott recently released his memoirs ‘Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust’.
