UK-based ex-pat Emily Barker’s classical folk has been transformed into BBC theme songs, teamed her with Paul Kelly, been set to film and poetry, and more.
Known far better in the UK than in her home country, West Australian-born Emily Barker’s talent for intricate folk compositions, with her band The Red Clay Halo, have sent her around the world (until they return as the theme songs for BBC series Wallander and The Shadow Line and win her a BAFTA).
Barker tells her story: her and the band’s first European tour, scoring short films based on the poetry of Robert Creeley, why her music isn’t merely for the background, opening for Paul Kelly, fan-funding, and much more.
