Post-Midnight Oil Jim Moginie is once again giving us The Colour Wheel, an eight guitar orchestra performed by Jim Moginie (Midnight Oil), Kent Steedman (Celibate Rifles), John Phillips (Not Drowning, Waving), Rosie Westbrook (Sean Kelly, Mick Harvey), Tim Kevin (Youth Group, Holly Throsby), Matt Steffen (Decoder Ring), Alex Young (Good Buddha) and Michael Trifunovic (Aqualash) in collaboration with Deb Hatton (lighting director).
Jim Moginie’s The Colour Wheel will perform at Melbourne’s The Capitol in Swanston Street on 16 September.
The Colour Wheel is a fascinating merging of science and art with sound and colour as the platform for the music.
Jim Moginie is a 50 years into the music career if you kick off the timeline with the formation of The Farm in Sydney in 1972. The Farm became Midnight Oil in 1976. Jim has been releasing his solo works since 2004, two albums with members of the Oils and Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes as The Break and also another project with Rob Hirst and Hamish Stuart ‘Red Continent’ coming in September 2023.
Jim spoke to Noise11’s Paul Cashmere.
