At age 32 Mahalia Barnes is a veteran of the Australian music industry.
Mahalia officially released her first album in 1991 at age 8 in the “family band” Tin Lids.
Jump forward 20 something years and you will be treated to one of Australia’s great female soul voices.
Mahalia is often seen live singing backup for her father Jimmy Barnes and often with her own group The Soul Mates.
For the latest Soul Mates album, Mahalia has partnered with blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa to rediscover a lost voice of the 70s Betty Davis.
Davis recorded three albums in the mid 70s and then just stopped. Mahalia and Joe have dug through the Betty Davis catalogue to resurrect some great songs rarely heard, even in their day.
Mahalia Barnes joins Paul Cashmere at Noise11.com to talk about Betty Davis, Joe Bonamassa … oh, and the Tin Lids.
