Veteran Australian promoter Michael Chugg is a founder of the Australian music industry.
Chugg is celebrating 50 years this year in a business that had no business when he was first starting out. After a colourful start as a radio announcer in Tasmania (he was sacked for saying fuck on air), Chugg moved to the mainland and started working behind the scenes with artists.
He met Michael Gudinski when he was 16 and together they started Frontier Touring before Chugg went it alone and created Chugg Entertainment, one of the biggest music empires today in Australasia.
Michael once managed Richard Clapton, The Church and The Sunnyboys. One of his closest friends was Billy Thorpe.
He has raised millions of dollars for charity and in 1998 was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia.
Michael Chugg has a lot of stories to place into an interview about his 50 years in the music business. He talks to Paul Cashmere at Noise11.com.
